WHO says beggars are not choosers? For IAS and other Group A service officers, who wish to get a foreign posting like their IFS counterparts, here are two options, one in Washington DC and the other in Beijing .
The government is looking for almost similar profiles for filling up two posts, one newly created post of Counsellor (Economic) for the Economic Wing of Embassy of India in Chinese city of Beijing , and the other adviser to the IMF Executive Director in Washington DC . For both the posts, circulars have come out at the same time, and the last date is the same --- August 31, 2010 . Here are the details:
Counsellor (Economic) in Embassy of India , Beijing , China
It is proposed to fill up the newly created post of Counsellor (Economic) in the Economic Wing of Embassy of India in Beijing , China for a period of 3 years. Officers of the rank of deputy secretary or director of the Government of India or equivalent level are eligible for the post. Officers applying for this post must have worked for at least two years at the Centre under the Central Staffing Scheme, and should not be over 54 years of age. Officers having knowledge of Mandarin will be preferred.

Adviser to the ED, IMF, Washington DC
The post will lie vacant as S Krishnan, a 1989 batch Tamil Nadu cadre IAS has completed his extended tenure on December 14, 2010 . Officers of the rank of deputy secretary or director of the Government of India or equivalent level are eligible for the post. Officers applying for this post should have a minimum two years cumulative working experience in the ministry of finance or economic ministries. He should be familiar with major fund-related issues. A person with a degree in international trade or MBA, will be preferred. The officer should not be over 54 years of age on the date of occurrence of vacancy.
