MEET Dinesh Kumar Mittal, a 1977 batch Uttar Pradesh cadre IAS, who moved to Shashtri Bhawan on February 1 to assume charge as secretary of the ministry of corporate affairs. An M.Sc in physics, Mittal began his career in IAS as a sub divisional officer in UP in July 1979 only to move up the ladder to hold various key posts both in the state and the Centre.
Some of his important assignments in UP include his stints as district magistrate in Auraiya and Barabanki districts and vice chairman of Ghaziabad Development Authority. Between 2004 and 2008, Mittal was in deputation to infrastructure company IL&FS where he had served as CEO. That period was quite defining for him as it because clear by then that he would head one of the key economic ministries at the Centre. On March, 2009, he joined the ministry of commerce as additional secretary which in turn became a springboard for his elevation as secretary to corporate affairs ministry.
