THE government has listed out measures in Parliament to show that it’s serious about weeding out corruption in bureaucracy. In a written reply to a question in Parliament, minister of state in the ministry of personnel, public grievances and pensions V Narayanasamy informed that CBI registered 83 cases against officers at the joint secretary and above during the period of 2008 and 2011 (till June 30, 2011). In 2009, the maximum number of such cases (4) came from HRD ministry, but in 2010, finance ministry officers (6) topped the list.
The minister further said that placing the Annual Immovable Property Returns of all members of All India Services and Group A services of the Central Government in public domain is one of those measures to bring transparency to the system. Also, members of these services are also proposed to be brought under the jurisdiction of Lokpal under the Lokpal Bill, 2011.
