4 more fellowships for Central government employees brought under study leaves

THE government has decided to bring fellowships offered by KK Birla Foundation, Indian Institutes of Management, Management Development Institute, Gurgaon and Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan National Institute of Criminology under the purview of study leaves on the same terms and conditions as the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fellowships (INMF).

In a DoPT office memo, dated September 1, 2011, the following terms will be offered to Central Government employees who are awarded the fellowship in relaxation of Rule 51, 57 and 59 of Central Civil Services (Leave) Rules, 1972.

i) They will be granted study leave for the entire period of the Fellowship;

ii) They will be entitled to the benefits admissible to them in accordance with the Fellowship and in addition, entitled to draw leave salary only (without allowance) equal to the pay that they drew while on duty with the government immediately before proceeding on such leave. However, they will be entitled to Dearness Allowance at the Central Government rates on the leave salary admissible to them;

iii) Where considered necessary, the official may be allowed during the period of the Fellowship, the continued use of the facility of the residential telephone officially allotted to him, subject to payment by him of the bills for the rental and call charges of the telephone.

Jain talks of “dignity of IAS”

Naveen Jain, a 2001 batch Rajasthan cadre IAS who went missing and then re-appeared, said that ministers and the government should be careful that IAS officers’ dignity is taken care of. Jain disappeared from a restaurant after he was denied an official accommodation in Jaipur. Jain was hiding in Chandigarh, but decided to come back after he came to know from media reports that his wife Sunita fell ill due to anxiety and was admitted to the ICU of a Jaipur hospital.
