Indian investigators to join training on crime prevention in Japan

SENIOR Indian officials, mainly the investigators, will join their counterparts from Asia Pacific region to undertake training on crime prevention, the core part of which will be held in Japan between
August 19 and September 28, 2012. The idea of the programme, facilitated by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), is to give criminal justice officials of Asia and Pacific region, and other countries, an opportunity to share experiences, gain knowledge in the fight against trafficking in persons, and also to create an international network on the issue.
Trafficking in persons is a heinous crime, and thousands of men, women, and children are trafficked and subjected to sexual exploitation, forced labour, slavery or other forms of exploitation every year.
Officials from police, prosecution, courts, ministries of justice etc. who are below 50 years are eligible to apply. As many as 16 participants will be selected. But it’s not known how many of them will be chosen from India.
An UN agency called United Nations Asia and Far East Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders (UNAFEI) will implement the programme. Seven years of experiences, good health and proficiency in English are must.
