Chinese bureaucrats complain of “too much official winning and dining”

NOTHING much is written about Chinese bureaucrats thanks to censorship rules. But during the last few days, some bloggers have managed to pass humorous comments on a headline: Chinese bureaucrats complain of “exhausting” wining and dining. he had to receive guests at a sauna and spa, eight times in a single day! Not just that, he had to eat breakfasts four times in one morning to entertain official guests.
Even People’s Daily has reported on such complaints. In one report, it says many officials need to remain in receptions and banquets and drink too much baijou. And when they reach home, they tend to forget that they haven’t actually eaten at all.
Why can’t the officials avoid too much winning and dining? “These people are all our guests. A lot of them actually come for work and to help our city, we cannot offend them,” said one official, as being quoted by reports.
But netizens even in Communist China did not waste time in poking fun at the officials airing those bizarre complaints. On micro-blogging site Sina Weibo, one post reads like this: “What a troubled world…while people all over are starving, these public ‘servants’ are eating N number of meals a day and complaining.”
In one of the commentaries, South China Morning Post quoted other reports saying: “News reports of corruption and malpractice amongst high-level Chinese bureaucrats are commonplace in the media nowadays but not many people know of the “bitter” difficulties the less endowed “grass-roots leaders” face”.

Action and Appointments
a) Prime Minister has approved the proposal for extending the period of additional charge of Amit Agrawal, a 1993 batch Chhattisgarh cadre IAS, as director in the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council (EAC), on a part-time basis, as OSD to Sam Pitroda, Adviser to Prime Minister till the end of his tenure with the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council i.e. upto July 7, 2013.
b) The Establishment Office under DoPT has written to chief secretaries of Assam and Meghalaya to relieve 1995 batch IAS Ms Archana Varma who has been appointed as a director in DoPT.
c) The Competent Authority has approved the proposal to re-designate the post of deputy secretary presently held by 1998 batch IAS Ms Vandana Yadav in the department of commerce to that of director. Also, the Central deputation tenure of Ms Yadav will now be up to September 11, 2016.
