Panel set up to raise retirement age of scientists to 64; what’s about the rest?

SOME scientists and government medical specialists may soon retire only at 64, four years after their colleagues in other Central government departments retire. With the government setting up a screening committee for considering proposals for extension in service of specialists belonging to scientific and medical fields beyond the age of 62 years, there are hopes that the government in this election year may raise the retirement age of all Central government employees to…
62 mainly to woo support of over 5 million staff. Senior DopT officials have however spoken to select media personnel to deny any such move. Those officials have remained anonymous.
Meanwhile, a June 13 office memorandum said that the PM approved the composition of a screening committee for considering proposals for “extension in service of specialists in scientific and medical fields beyond the age of 62 years”. The panel will be chaired by the cabinet secretary, and will have science and technology secretary, bio-technology secretary and DoPT secretary as its members. The tenure of the committee will be two years.
The OM further clarified that in the case of officials belonging to mission oriented agencies like the department of atomic energy or the department of space, the secretary of the department concerned will also be associated with the committee.

  1. Do the youth don`t need any employment in the teaching field and other fields where the retirement age is being increased? So why are only the central govt employees being sidelined....are they not brainy enough? This is being unfair to the people who serve you the most!! and are always to your beck and call....and now when you could have rewarded them you are ignoring them completely!!
