DGP of Assam Police, but Tarun Gogoi government picked up his junior and the then additional director of Intelligence Bureau, Jayanta Narayan Choudhury instead. Goswami was at that time serving as the CMD of Assam Police Housing Corporation.
Goswami, a post graduate in physics before getting into IPS and the one who is widely known for his knowledge across subjects, was later chosen to head the National Police Academy. He took charge of the Academy in March 2013.
In the state, Goswami held many important posts including that of Superintendent of Police in NC Hills district, Commandant of Battalions in Assam Police, DIG of Western Range, Kokrajhar, DIG (Border) and Director of Assam State Forensic Science Organisation. He was also the IGP of Bureau of Investigation and Economic Offences.
On Central deputation, Goswami served as the IGP of CRPF for seven years beginning 2001. He was decorated with the Indian Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 2001 and the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Services in 2007.
Goswami is expected to remain as ITBP’s chief till the date of his superannuation, which is December 31, 2014.
