electrical engineer-turned IAS. As a Tamil Nadu cadre IAS, Navnit was sub-collector of Tirunelveli and then collector in Viluppuram district. Between 2008 and 2012, he was with the Union ministry of finance working as a deputy secretary. 
In August 2012, he was appointed as additional commissioner (works) in Chennai Corporation, a civic body that governs the city of Chennai. Then in a major IAS reshuffle in June last year, Navnit was posted as director of rural development and Panchayat Raj in Tamil Nadu government. He took charge on July 1, 2013. In the last few months, he was also coordinating with various training programmes imparted to elected representatives of rural Local Bodies and officials through Tamil Nadu’s five Regional Institutes of Rural Development (RIRDs).
