Ashwani Lohani, a railway officer serving as chairman and managing director of India’s national carrier — Air India, among other railways, accounts and revenue officers, were last week empanelled as union secretaries or secretary-equivalent. Lohani, a 1980 batch Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineering officer and six others from 1980 and 1981 batch were empanelled as secretaries whereas 11 officers of 1982, 1983 and 1984 batches were empanelled as additional secretaries, and also 11 IPS officers of 1982 and 1983 batches were empanelled as director general or DG equivalent.
