Santosh Dattatraya Vaidya, 1998 batch AGMUT cadre IAS and former PMO official, is the new Senior Adviser to the Executive Director, World Bank for three years. He will replace 1997 batch Karnataka cadre IAS LK Atheeq in this Washington DC-located joint secretary-ranked post. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) on Tuesday approved the appointment of Vaidya, who is now a joint secretary in the ministry of…
new and renewable energy. Hailing from Maharashtra, Vaidya is a B.Tech in instrumentation from IIT-Kharagpur before completing his post-graduation in economics from New Delhi-based open university, IGNOU. According to DoPT records, Vaidya has also done two certificate courses — one from the University of Texas System and another from Georgetown University.
An AGMUT cadre IAS, Vaidya began his career in Arunachal Pradesh and was additional deputy commissioner in West Siang district in 2000-2001. Later, he became deputy commissioner in Lower Dibang Valley and West Siang districts respectively.
Then he was posted in Goa where he worked in the Goa CM’s secretariat between 2004 and 2007. He was also secretary to Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar, who later became the union defence minister before returning to the beach state recently as the CM once more.
Vaidya then was posted in National Capital Territory of Delhi where he was first an additional CEO of Delhi Jal Board in 2007-2010. He also served as secretary (at the rank of a director) in New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) and was special secretary to Delhi chief minister in 2012-13 when Sheila Dikshit was the chief minister.
Vaidya was a director in Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) between September 2013 and March 2016, thereby serving under both the regimes —UPA of Manmohan Singh and NDA of Narendra Modi.
