LAST Friday, the government announced the appointment of five officers belonging to various Central Group “A” services in the ministries such as home affairs, mines, commerce and also in the department of investment and public asset management that comes under the ministry of finance. None of them was incidentally an IAS. Here below are the five deputy secretary, director level appointments:
1. 2006 batch Indian Forest Service (IFoS) officer Prashant Rajagopal has been appointed as deputy secretary in the ministry of home affairs for a period till May 17, 2021. An M.Sc in agriculture from Kerala Agricultural University, Rajagopal was serving as deputy conservator of forests. He also has an AIGNFA diploma from Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy, Dehradun.
2. 2002 batch Indian Telecom Service (ITS) officer Ashwani Kumar has been appointed as director in the Inter State Council Secretariat under the ministry of home affairs.
3. 2000 batch Indian Railway Accounts Service (IRAS) officer Bhaskar Choradia has been appointed as director in Directorate General of Supplies and Disposals (DGS and D), a government agency that comes under the ministry of commerce.
4. 2008 batch Indian Cost Accounts Service (ICoAS) officer Chunilal Ghosh has been appointed as deputy secretary in the department of investment and public asset management, one of the five departments of the ministry of finance -- the others being the department of economic affairs (DEA), revenue, expenditure and financial services. Ghosh, 43, completed M Com from Calcutta University before got selected into the government service. He is also an ICWA from Institute of Cost Accountants of India.
5. 1998 batch Indian Postal Service (IPoS) officer Veena Kumari Dermal has been appointed as director in the ministry of mines.
Indian forest service is an all India service, kindly go through the relevant rules before reporting.
