THE government on Wednesday decided to repatriate four Bihar cadre IAS officers, two of them — Sunil Kumar Singh of 1983 batch and Dr Subhas Sharma of 1984 batch — being very senior, as their batch mates are already union secretaries. The repatriation order approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, came in less than a month after the change of government in Patna with chief minister Nitish Kumar deciding to junk its ally RJD and partnering with its old ally, the BJP. The two other IAS officers who were also repatriated to Bihar on Wednesday were…
Uday Singh Kumawat of 1993 batch and Ms AN Safeena of 1997 batch. Sunil Kumar Singh was serving as additional secretary in the ministry of agriculture and farmers’ welfare. Earlier, he had served as CVO of Indian Oil Corporation and joint secretary in the ministry of housing and urban poverty, now merged with the urban development ministry. He will retire in May end, 2019.
On the other hand, Dr Subhas Sharma was serving as additional secretary in the ministry of information and broadcasting in the Government of India. Between 2007 and 2012, he was a joint secretary in the ministry of defence. He also served as the chairman of Bihar Public Service Commission.
Uday Singh Kumawat was serving as joint secretary in the department of revenue. He originally belongs to Rajasthan. He is a graduate in computer science and did his masters in public administration.
The fourth IAS to be repatriated to Bihar on Wednesday — Ms AN Safeena — originally belongs to Kerala. She holds PhD degree in agriculture.
Meanwhile, in an unrelated development, the government had permitted IAS officer Yasswant Eknath Kerure to change his name to Yashawant Eknathrao Kerure, according to a notification issued on Wednesday. The officer is a 1997 batch Maharashtra cadre IAS.
Also, the government allowed the cadre change of 2016 batch Assam cadre IAS Rakesh Kumar from Assam-Meghalaya cadre to AGMUT cadre on grounds of marriage to Ms Saloni Rai, 2016 batch AGMUT cadre IAS.
