Know more about 2 newly-appointed rail bureaucrats — member engineering MK Gupta and member staff DK Gayen

ALMOST one and half months after Air India CMD Ashwani Lohani was appointed as the chairman of the Railway Board, two more senior rail bureaucrats — MK Gupta and DK Gayen — were on Wednesday appointed in the Board, the highest decision-making body of the Indian Railways. Gayen, the General Manager in East Central Railway, would be the new Member (Staff). The Railway Board members are ranked equivalent to Government of India secretaries.
Gupta — Mahesh Kumar Gupta is his full name — is a 1979 batch Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE) officer. Before joining the Railways, he did his engineering from the University of Roorkee, now an IIT. Prior to becoming the General Manager in Modern Coach Factory, Rae Bareli, he had worked as chief administrative officer (constructions), Central Railway. He has also worked in various important posts such as chief bridge engineer, Eastern Railways and Central Railways respectively, chief engineer (planning and design), Central Railways, senior divisional engineer (co-ordination), Nagpur division, Central Railways, deputy chief engineer, Konkan Railways, joint director (tracks), RDSO, Lucknow and deputy chief engineer, Central Railways.
Gayen — the new Member (Staff) — is a 1981 batch officer belonging to Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME). He completed his mechanical engineering from Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology in 1979. Prior to this assignment, he was the General Manager, East Central Railway, Hajipur. He also worked as chief mechanical engineer, South Eastern Railway. The other important posts that Gayen had held in his railway careers included chief rolling stock engineer and chief motive power engineer, Eastern Railways, chief workshop manager, Jamalpur Workshop and Liluah Workshop. He was also the director (inspection and liaison) in RDSO, Lucknow.
