THE Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), which is the cadre controlling authority of IAS officers and is in a way the human resources development outfit for most Central government employees in terms of empanelment, scholarship etc., has turned the trail blazer in health and hygiene for women, as sanitary napkin coin-vending and disposal machines were installed on Friday in three ladies washrooms of the North Block where the main office of the department is located. install such machines in two of its other buildings, Lok Nayak Bhawan and old JNU Campus. According to a statement issued by the DoPT on Friday, DoPT installed those machines in the three ladies washrooms (ground floor, 1st floor and 2nd floor) of DoPT area of North Block under the ongoing “Swachhata Hi Seva” (SHS) campaign.
The initiative is a part of an action plan of the DoPT for the ongoing SHS initiated by the department of drinking water and sanitation.
Two woman joint secretaries of DoPT — Ms K. Kipgen and Ms G Jayanthi -- inaugurated the Napkin Vending Machine and Napkin Disposal Machine respectively at the first floor of ladies washroom. Another officer— Ms Manjula Juneja, under secretary of the department and a large number of women employees were present on this occasion. All the three vending machines are having the feature of putting a five rupee coin/different denominations for getting a napkin which will be operated on “no profit and no loss” basis, according to the department’s official statement. Also, the disposal machines have the feature to dispose the used napkins in an environment-friendly way.
