A FRIENDLY cricket match between IAS XI and IPS XI in Lucknow during the weekend created a row after the IPS Association attributed its officers’ victory to its "DNA", something which the IAS Association did not take very kindly. It all began after the IPS XI trashed IAS XI by 9 wickets in a friendly match played during the IAS Week in Lucknow. IAS Week in UP is a regular event, and possibly is the largest of this kind in India. But the IPS Association posted this controversial tweet:
“We did it again! UP #IPS Cricket team registered a comprehensive win against UP IAS team. #IAS XI scored 144 in 20 overs setting for us a modest target, which IPS XI made in just 14 overs and after losing only one wicket. True to our DNA, we’re good. Period😊”.
While congratulating the IPS team, the IAS Association subtly objected to the DNA jibe.
“Congratulations. Well deserved. DNA is good - always. Let’s not a friendly cricket match turn into a DNA test”, it tweeted.
UP IPS Association, however, toned down the controversy by posting a social media message that “a game is a game and we play it in that spirit.” It further added that there is no tussle between IAS and IPS in the state of Uttar Pradesh. It also said that there are concerns about how better law and order can be provided, and "the two services are working together for it". "We look forward to continuing this half century old tradition."
The IPS Association then tweeted: “We endorse @UPIPSASSO. Truly, a game is a game and same goes for a tweet on the game! It deserves to be taken in that spirit. Nothing more than that. Period”, thereby clearing seeking to end the DNA row.
A game is a game and same goes for the DNA tweet on the game. How true!
