Sadhguru, a yogi and a mystic, tweeted on the Republic Day that “over 100 top IAS officers undergoing the #InnerEngineering Leadership Program at Isha Yoga Center made the #RepublicDay celebrations very special.—sg”. Are you wondering why such as large number of IAS officers were camping at Isha Yoga Centre in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore on the Republic Day? Here below is the reason: The department of personnel and training (DoPT)...
sends IAS officers for 5-day-long in-service programme in Sadhguru’s yoga center, one of such programmes being held during the week ending the Republic Day last week.
The programme is named inner engineering program and is designed specifically for the government officials holding senior leadership positions in the Central and state governments. According to Isha Foundation, the programme offers powerful tools derived from the yogic sciences, to achieve one’s full potential. “It not only empowers participants to achieve an inner balance that translates into clarity, creativity, efficiency and harmony at the workplace, but also realize their boundless potential”, says the Foundation’s website.
In fact, the first batch of officers underwent this training from December 14 to 18, 2015 after the DoPT had introduced the programme as a part of the mandatory in-service programme for senior officers. Then, as many as 61 IAS officers from across India attended the programme in Coimbatore from January 4 to 8, 2016. There were similar programmes organised between December 5 and 9, 2016 and January 23 and 27, 2017 too.
The programme for the officers includes teaching of various methods to address every aspect of wellbeing — body, mind, emotions and energy, so as to establish a sense of health, joy and vibrancy, according to the content of the programme posted in the Isha Yoga Center’s site. The learning encompasses rejuvenating guided meditations, energising asanas and kriyas, engaging discourses about the nature of the mind and practical wisdom to manage life’s situations. The officers are asked to practise Shambhavi Mahamudra, an ancient kriya (inner energy process) that gets “transmitted as a practice to enhance life on all levels”. The Yoga Center further claims that various research studies on Shambhavi Mahamudra show it yields immense health benefits.
