ON FEBRUARY 1, three Central government departments should have had new secretaries, but the government instead decided bestow additional charge of the vacant posts to the secretaries in the allied ministry, albeit for the time being. As it stands today, three ministries viz. the ministry of parliamentary affairs, the ministry of statistics and programme implementation and the ministry of Panchayati Raj won’t have a full-time secretaries for the time being. The following are the three secretary level officers who were given additional charge of the vacant secretary-level posts with effect from February 1, and until further orders:
1. Prabhas Kumar Jha, 1982 batch Uttar Pradesh cadre IAS and present secretary in the department of official languages, has been given additional charge of the post of secretary in the ministry of Parliamentary affairs, with an immediate effect.
2. KV Eapen, 1984 batch Assam cadre IAS and the current secretary in the department of administrative reforms and public grievances, has been given additional charge of the post of secretary in the ministry of statistics and programme implementation, with immediate effect.
3. Amarjeet Sinha, 1983 batch Bihar cadre IAS and the current secretary in the department of rural development, has been given additional charge of the post of secretary in the ministry of Panchayati Raj.
Meanwhile, in an unrelated development, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the promotion of Dr VS Prasad and Dr (Smt.) Munmun Das Gupta from the grade of scientist “F” to the grade of scientist “G” under the Modified Flexible Complimenting Scheme.
