THERE is nothing new in two IAS officers falling in love during probation in Mussoorie’s IAS academy, LBSNAA, and then getting married. But on Sunday, the marriage of Tina Dabi and Athar Aamir Khan at a Pahalgam resort in the trouble-torn Kashmir Valley was the talking point both among officers and also in social media. But why? First, the IAS couple who…
belong to Rajasthan cadre chose to get married, not in Delhi or in Rajasthan, but in the Kashmir Valley which of late has been reeling under a series of terror incidents and sporadic violence. Athar Aamir belongs to Anantnag. The photos of the couple in wedding dress were all over in social media on Sunday, with some users even posting photos of the invitation cards too.
Secondly, the couple happened to be in the creamy layer of the elite service — Tina from Delhi ranked first in 2015 civil services examination and Athar Aamir stood second. Both belong to 2016 batch IAS. Athar Aamir lost out to Dabi in the UPSC race, but he won her heart — was the punchline when it was made public that the first and second rank holders decided to get married.
Thirdly, it’s a confluence of two different cultures and regions. Many in social media made fun out of the event and even passed unsavoury remarks, something which need to be happily ignored.
After getting selected into IAS, both the officers first met during a felicitation ceremony in North Block’s DoPT office. According to reports, for Aamir, it was love at first sight. Their relations deepened as they were together in Mussoorie during the training. Then, one day, Tina disclosed in public that they decided to tie the knot calling Aamir as a “wonderful person”.
