THE Central government last week approved the in-situ elevation of two Maharastra cadre IAS officers to the rank of secretary to the Government of India. The officers are: Malini Shankar and ASP Pandey; both belong to 1984 batch. collector, Nagpur. According to DoPT records, she is an MSc in chemistry and forensic science. She is also a PhD in public policy from IIT-Madras. She hails from Tamil Nadu. Ms Shankar is retiring by the end of this year.
On the other hand, ASP Pandey is the CEO of Unique Identification Authority of India, the agency authorised to issue Aadhar cards that display a unique identity for each individual. An IIT pass out on electrical engineering, Pandey, haling from Bihar, is also a PhD in computer science from the University of Minnesota Minneapolis. Pandey will retire in February, 2021.
In another development, Sangeeta Saxena, a 2001 batch Indian Economic Service (IES) officer, has been appointed as director in the department of chemicals and petrochemicals for a period of five years. Also, Balram Kumar, a 2004 batch Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS) officer, has been appointed as deputy secretary in the ministry of textiles.
