IAS Association has a new president. It’s union secretary and Rajasthan cadre IAS officer, Rakesh Srivastava. Here are 10 things you may like to know about the IAS Association’s new president:
1. Rakesh Srivastava is a 1981 batch Rajasthan cadre IAS, presently a secretary in the ministry of women and child development.
2. An MSc in physics before getting into IAS, he is also a masters in business administration (MBA).
3. In his cadre, Rajasthan, he served as collector in a number of districts —Dholpur, Tonk and Udaipur — all in early 1990s.
4. In late 90s, he was on the central deputation when he first served as director in the ministry of tourism, and then joint secretary in the department of defence production.
5. In the cadre, he handled departments such as mines, transport and administrative reforms before returning to New Delhi on a central deputation in 2007.
6. Between 2007 and 2012, he was joint secretary in the union ministry of shipping.
7. He served as member secretary in the National Commission for Backward Classes before becoming the secretary in the ministry of women and child development in May last year.
8. In 2013, he had a 12-day-long foreign training on tourism, heritage, according to information available in the DoPT site.
9. Srivastava originally belongs to the state of Uttar Pradesh.
10. He will retire in the end of March next year.
