KANPUR city (east) Superintendent of Police and 2014 batch IPS officer, Surendra Kumar Das, died on Sunday, four days after he had allegedly consumed poison in a suicide bid. In the “suicide note”, the officer reportedly cited some “family issues”. Here are 10 things about Das and his untimely death:
1. Surendra Kumar Das was a 30-year-old IPS officer.
2. He originally belonged to eastern Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia.
3. Belonging to 2014 batch IPS, he was posted as Superintendent of Police (east) in the city of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, this August.
4. He died during treatment in a private hospital four days after he had reportedly consumed poison.
5. According to media reports, Das consumed sulphas powder which he asked his domestic help to buy from the markets for killing rats.
6. A one-page hand-written “suicide note” was found when the officer was lying unconscious on Wednesday.
7. Preliminary investigations have revealed that he was on a high depression and even googled “ways to end life”.
8. His wife is a doctor by profession.
9. Uttar Pradesh’s Director General of Police (DGP), OP Singh, had visited the hospital on Saturday.
10. IPS Association in a Twitter post says: “We are deeply saddened by his tragic demise. A bright and affectionate officer, he shall be missed by all of us.”
