his retirement on August 31 next year.
Originally belonging to Bihar, Misra was allotted Uttar Pradesh cadre after getting into IPS. He worked in the BSF as IGP, additional DG, and was then elevated to the rank of Special Director General rank before he was brought into SSB. For the record, the BSF has the strength of about 2 lakh personnel, and it primarily guards the country's frontier with Pakistan and Bangladesh. Some of the BSF personnel are also posted in the Naxal-affected areas of Chhattisgarh.
Meanwhile, in another development, SS Deswal, a 1984 batch Haryana cadre IPS, has been appointed as the new Director General of SSB. He is presently serving as the Special DG of BSF. Thus, in a way, the government ordered swapping of forces for two senior IPS — both incidentally being batchmates. Misra will now move from the SSB to BSF while Deswal will take the other route —BSF to SSB. The SSB, present in six frontiers and five states, has a strength of over 94,000 personnel including 1,850 women personnel.
