A FRIENDLY cricket match will be held between Uttar Pradesh cadre of IAS and IPS officers in Lucknow on December 16, as part of the IAS Week — the annual event of UP IAS Association, to be organised in Lucknow from December 13 to 16. State chief minister Yogi Adityanath among others are likely to be in the guest list of the high-profile IAS week. Last year, the IAS-IPS cricket match took an ugly turn after the IPS Association attributed...
its the police’s victory over the IAS to its "DNA", something which the IAS Association did not take very kindly.
As reported by BoI in a post dated December 18, 2017, the IPS Association first tweeted saying, “We did it again! UP #IPS Cricket team registered a comprehensive win against UP IAS team. #IAS XI scored 144 in 20 overs setting for us a modest target, which IPS XI made in just 14 overs and after losing only one wicket. True to our DNA, we’re good. Period😊”.
The IAS Association then tweeted, subtly objecting to the DNA jibe. “Congratulations. Well deserved. DNA is good - always. Let’s not a friendly cricket match turn into a DNA test”, it tweeted.
The IPS Association then toned down its earlier tweets and said: “We endorse @UPIPSASSO. Truly, a game is a game and same goes for a tweet on the game! It deserves to be taken in that spirit. Nothing more than that. Period.”
The row figured prominently in the local media reports.
Cricket matches often figure during UP IAS week. Earlier, then then Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav played cricket matches with IAS-XI.
