Know Your Babu: Chhattisgarh’s new chief secretary Sunil Kujur


IN A sudden decision, the newly-installed government of Chhattisgarh on Wednesday night appointed 1986 batch IAS, Sunil Kumar Kujur, as the state’s new chief secretary. Kujur will be the first tribal chief secretary in the state which was carved out of Madhya Pradesh in 2000. About 30% of the state's population is tribal. 
Kujur replaced Ajay Singh, a 1983 batch IAS, who in turn was made the new chairman of Revenue Board, Bilaspur. Here are 10 things you may like to know about new chief secretary Kujur:
1. Originally belonging to Bihar, Kujur is a 1986 batch Chhattisgarh cadre IAS. 
2. Before being made the state’s new chief secretary, Kujur was serving as the additional chief secretary of the department of agriculture and animal husbandry. 
3. He is one officer who never worked with the Central government on a deputation, and has been serving in the state itself. 
4. During his career, Kujur served as assistant collector in Durg and collector in Mandla, a district in Madhya Pradesh (Chhattisgarh was part of MP till 2000).
5. After the new state was carved out, Kujur was made collector in Bilaspur district (2000-2001). 
6. In the state, he handled a number of departments including science and technology, water resources, revenue, disaster management, forests to name a few. 
7. Between 2014 and 2016, he was the principal secretary to Governor of Chhattisgarh. 
8. Kujur did masters in sociology before getting into IAS.
9. Later, he did one course in human resources development in Thailand and another in finance in UK. 
10. Kujur will retire on October 31 this year.
