THE Central government last week appointed private secretaries of three prominent ministers — home minister, Amit Shah, textiles minister, Smriti Irani and DoPT and DoNER minister, Jitendra Singh. Here below are the details:
1. Ms M Imkongla Jamir, 2002 batch Karnataka cadre IAS, has been appointed as private secretary to Union minister Smriti Zubin Irani, in the ministry of textiles in the rank of a Union director. The appointment is on a co-terminus basis. Originally belonging to Nagaland, Ms Jamir, 44, did her post-graduation in psychology before getting into IAS. She was Irani’s PS earlier too.
2. Ashish Kumar, 2005 batch Tamil Nadu cadre IAS, has been appointed as private secretary to the DoNER and personnel minister, Dr Jitendra Singh, in the department of personnel and training (DoPT). He will hold the rank of a deputy secretary. Kumar, a mechanical engineer-turned IAS, is also a cost accountant and a master in business law. Earlier, he was an OSD to minister Singh in the department of atomic energy.
3. Saket Kumar, 2009 batch Bihar cadre IAS, has been appointed as private secretary to union Minister of Home Affairs, Amit Shah. Kumar, 38, will get a rank of a Union deputy secretary. Kumar did his MA in history from the University of Delhi before getting into IAS.
Meanwhile, in an unrelated development, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved to grant in-situ upgradation to Ms Amita Prasad, 1985 batch Karnataka cadre IAS, as Director General, National Productivity Council, in the rank and pay of secretary by temporarily upgrading the post held by her as a measure personal to the officer.
